About Amanda – Endurance Training Specalist

I love running, cycling and triathlon (swimming not so much so I’m happy to finish that first leg of the triathlon!). My running journey began in high-school - mostly finishing last - but worked my way up to most valuable teammate and athlete by my senior year.

In university, I studied Kinesiology at the University of Saskatchewan and trained with the Huskie X-Country and Track teams, competed in national and international triathlons, worked as a student athletic trainer and coached the U of S Triathlon Club. Here I gained a first-hand experience of assessing and rehabbing sports related injuries.

After my undergrad, I moved to Spain to complete a Masters in High Performance Sport: Strength and Conditioning, and trained + competed with the local Spanish triathlon club. For some endurance running training tips, I would recommend reading Optimize Your Performance: Stop Training in the Shit Zone and Speed Training Need To Know’s blog.

Back in Canada, I took on an unpaid internship in Strength and Conditioning working with both team sport and endurance athletes.  The more I worked as a strength coach - the more I realized how powerful strength training is for endurance athletes - for both injury and performance. This is when “Running with Regnier” was born! If you are interested in reading more about strength training for runners I’d recommend the Upper Body and Core for Runners blog, Heavy Strength/ Plyo’s for Runners and Endurance Strength for Endurance Athletes blogs.

After a few years of working with athletes 1-1 to help them achieve their endurance goals (primarily marathons, half marathons and triathlons) I decided to take a step back from coaching to pursue a PhD!

Currently, I am in my first year as a fully funded PhD student studying how the menstrual cycle affects sport performance at a university in northern England. More specifically, my research will focus on the affects of sodium bicarbonate (which has been found to be beneficial for both short and endurance events) during different phases of the menstrual cycle.

If you made it this far - thanks for reading! Although my research is just getting started, I am excited to start sharing more about female endocrinology and sport science over the next few years. Until then, please enjoy some of my previous blogs such as Myths of Chocolate Milk Post-Workout and Top 3 Steps for Overcoming an Injury.
